Military Record: Entered service April 26, 1861 at Appomattox in Company A, 44th Virginia. Appointed 1st Lt July 1, 1861. Served as Provost-Marshall at Monterey and Camp Bartow. Defeated at March 1862 re-organization election. Dropped March 27, 1862. Sought (and received) various government posts. Enlisted for war November 3, 1862 near Port Royal in Company D, 7th Louisiana. Elected 2nd Lt January 3, 1863. Captured at Rappahannock Station November 7, 1863. Held at Johnson's Island, Ohio. Released on oath June 13, 1865. Post War Career: Married Hammie Leftwich. Teacher; farmer; merchant; postmaster; county registrate (Bedford County). Died- January 9, 1894. Buried Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery in Boonsboro. |
