Civil War Record: Enlisted at May 24, 1861 at Marion, Ala. as Sgt. of Co. G 4th Ala. Regiment; Wounded in action at the first Battle of Manassas; Transferred to Co. H 20th Ala. Regiment as 2nd Lieut. on Sept. 10, 1861; Promoted to 1st Lieut. Nov. 26, 1861; On detached service in late 1862; Captured at Vicksburg, Ms. July 4, 1863; Paroled July 8, 1863; Captured at Peachtree Creek July 20, 1864 and held at Johnson's Island, Oh.; Release on oath Jun. 15, 1865.
