Biography & Genealogy:Tabb William Barksdale, Class of 1859 (graduated 17 out of 29): Born- September 11, 1840. Matriculated from Mattaox, Va. At VMI 3 years. At UVa 1859-60, where he was Capt of the Sons of Liberty (student company). Military Record: Appointed 1st Lt, PAV May 1, 1861 and assigned as Assistant Adjutant General on staff of Brig Gen H.A. Wise. To Capt January 14, 1862 (date of rank August 6, 1861). Resigned (bad health) July 24, 1862. Appointed Maj, 28th Virginia Battalion Ocotber 7, 1862 (date of rank September 9). Battalion absorbed into 59th Virginia. Elected Colonel of that regiment November 1, 1862. Wounded in Action near Richmond June 17, 1864. In hospital much of late 1864 (sick). On division examining board January-February 1865. Paroled at Appomattox. Post War Career: Lawyer. Married Emily Rutherford 1865. Died- November 23, 1874 in Amelia County.
