Military Record: Appointed 1st Lt, Provisional Army Virginia and assigned as Acting Adjutant, 16th Virginia May 8, 1861. Instructor of Military Tactics, University of Alabama 1861-62. Appointed Adjutant, 56th Virginia May 8, 1862 (some records show April 1). Resigned October 31, 1862 for health (chronic inflamation of bladder). At unknown date appointed Captain, Artillery and assigned to ordnance duty at Danville Arsenal. Also Captain, Capt W.H. Otey's Company Light Artillery, Virginia Local Defense Troops (arsenal employees). Post War Career: Teacher; insurance. Died- April 21, 1890 in Lynchburg.
