Biography & Genealogy: | Craig Woodrow McDonald, Class of 1859: Born- May 28, 1837. Matriculated from Romney, (West Virginia). At VMI 2 years. Military Record: On April 17, 1861 at Brandy Station joined Company E, 13th Virginia (probably as Private). Appointed 2nd Lt, Provisional Army of Virginia. May 22, 1861 and assigned as Aide-de-camp to staff of Col (later Maj Gen) A. Elzey. Seems to have served with his father, Col A.W. McDonald who commanded the post at Winchester 1861-62. Appointed 2nd Lt, Reserve Army Confederate States November 7, 1861. Ordered back to Elzey's staff as Aide-de-camp January 1862. Killed in action at Gaines's Mill. Died- June 27, 1862 at Gaines's Mill. Buried Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Va. |
