I, 5th Texas Regt Oct. 23, 1861; out sick in Richmond, Va. July 2, 1862; Appointed Adjutant of 5th Tx. Regt. Aug. 1, 1862; Appointed Acting Assistant Adjutant General of brigade Oct. 22, 1862; Acting Brig. Inspector in summer of 1863; his horse was killed in action at Chickamauga; promoted to Captain Nov. 8, 1862; one of half a dozen who claimed to have turned General Robert E. Lee's horse in the famous "Lee to the rear" incident May 6, 1864 at tje Battle of the Wilderness; Brig. Inspector General and Assistant Adjutant General 1864-65. Paroled at Appomattox.
