Children- 1- Archibald Govan Hill (Jr.); 2- Blanche V. Hill Vest, who married Edward N. Vest (probably a cousin); 3- James Murray Hill. VMI Record: Entered VMI- July 30, 1856 as a 3rd Classman; Graduated July 4, 1859 standing 18 in a class of 29. Civil War Record: Elected 1st Lt. of Co. H. of the 53rd Va. Regt. July 20, 1861; on detached service with Engineers on the Peninsula march of 1861-62; Employed at VMI 1862-64 as Lt. (1862-63) and Captain, Assistant Instructor of French & Tactics; Commanded Co. C. of the Corps of Cadets during the Battle to New Market May 15, 1864 and was seriously wounded in the head during that Battle. Signed parole June 16, 1865 at Charlottesville, Va. Careers: Teacher; Instructor at VMI (see above); Taught English at a school in Costa Rica after the war, then returned to the U.S. where he taught High School in Louisa Co. Va. and was also a Principal there; later became a bank officer and bookkeeper for the Bank of Louisa. Died- Oct. 20, 1914.|
