Battalion May 1, 1861; out sick Dec. 1861; detailed to VMI Jan. 1862; promoted to Captain May 22, 1862; Assumed command of Co. D, 1st Va. Battalion June 6, 1862; wounded in action Aug. 1862; often commanded battalion 1862-64; paroled at Appomattox in 1865. Careers: Teacher; civil engineer; Lieut. and Assistant Professor of French at VMI 1860; Asst. Professor of Infantry Tactics at VMI 1868-69, 1871, 1873-75. Died- Sept. 2, 1897 in Alexandria, Va.
