Biography & Genealogy: | Ham Joseph Hutchinson, Class of 1859: Born- June 6, 1838. Matriculated from Hampton, Va. At VMI 4 years. Military Record: Appointed 2nd Lt, Provisional Army of Virginia May 23, 1861. Assigned to 16th Va as drill master. Elected Captain, Company F, 16th Va October 17, 1861. Elected Lt Col May 3, 1862 at re-organization. Praised for "conspicuous gallantry" at Malvern Hill. Wounded in action (hip) at Second Manassas August 30, 1862. To Colonel April 29, 1863 (date of rank August 30, 1862). Wounded in action (right leg) May 1864. Post War Career: Teacher; farmer; county clerk; school official. Superintendent of schools. Married Anna Gambol. Died- April 26, 1912 and buried in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Warwick County.
