Military Record: Entered service Apr. 15, 1861 at Amherst Court House for 1 year; Appointed Capt. of Company H, 19th Virginia on July 1, 1861; elected Major Apr. 29, 1862; Wounded in Action (thigh) at Cold Harbor; promoted to Lieutenant Colonel Sep. 14, 1862; mortally wounded by cannon ball in artillery firing that preceded Pickett's Charge during the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863. Died- July 3, 1863 during the Battle of Gettysburg. Buried Pickett's Division Hospital, Bream's Mill in apple orchard; disinterred to Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, VA August 1872 in box #246. |
