Biography & Genealogy:Richard Taylor Wilson, Class of 1870: Genealogy: Born- Oct. 4, 1847 in Nottoway Co. Va. Father- Charles Wilson; Mother- Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) No information on grandparents. Married- 1st- Hutoka S. Hobbs of Greensville Co. Va.; 2nd- Bessie P. Garland of Amherst Co. Va. Children- He had one daughter with Hutoka and three sons and four more daughters with Bessie. We don't have a list of the names of all of his children, but here are the ones we know: 1- Richard T. Wilson Jr.; 2- Dr. Sam M. Wilson; 3- Mrs. George G. Martin (given name unknown); 4- Daisy Wilson; 5- Leigh Wilson; 6- Mrs. Richard Fox (given name unknown) VMI Record: Entered VMI- Sept. 8, 1866; Graduated- July 4, 1870 ranking 17th in a class of 52. Careers: Professor of Math at Ewing Seminary in Ark.; Lawyer for 15 years in Petersburg, Va.; received Doctorate of Divinity in 1887 and entered the Ministry of the Methodist Church; 1899 became Presiding Elder serving the West Richmond District in Va. Died- Aug. 28, 1907.

The database currently includes the names of all enrolled students (both graduates and non-graduates) from VMI's opening in 1839 through the World War II era. In addition, you will find biographical and genealogical information, including a summary of military service during the Civil War, for many individuals who attended in the 19th century. The database also includes some historical Faculty and Board of Visitors members, as well as U. S. Army students sent to VMI for training during World Wars I and II.
