Married- Mary Smith, daughter of James Smith and Priscilla Brooke Fleet of King and Queen Co. Va. Children- 1-Mary Brooke Councill, who married John A. Randolph; 2- Florence Councill, who married Robert. L. T. Pierce; 3- Gertrude Councill, who married F. Delaplaine Willis; 4- Annie Garland Councill, who married 1st Lewis W. Gregory, and 2nd Cornelius Hancock Sullivan. There was also a son, but we have no record of his name. VMI Record: Entered VMI- July 18, 1845; Graduated July 4, 1848 standing 2nd in a class of 24. Civil War Record: Enlisted June 13, 1861 at Clarkson, Va. as Capt. of Co. I, 26th Va. Infantry; Elected Lt. Col. May 13, 1862; Detacted as Mustering Officer late 1863; Captured at Jordan's Farm June 15, 1864; Held at Ft. Delaware, De; Sent to South Carolina Aug. 1864 as one of the "Immortal 600"; Released on oath from Ft. Delaware July 24, 1865. Careers: Cadet Acting Assistant Professor of Math at VMI 1847-48; Founder and Principal of Aberdeen Academy. Died- Jan. 22, 1904 in King and Queen Co. Va.|
