Maternal Grandfather- Dr. Charles Mortimer; Maternal Grandmother- unknown. Married- 1st- Sally Turpin, daughter of William Anthony Turpin of Botetourt Co. Va.; 2nd- Sarah Blair McGuire, daughter of Rev. William McGuire and Mariette Heber Alexander of King George Co. Va. Children- 1- Bessie Carter Randolph; 2- Mary Mortimer Randolph; 3- Charles C. Randolph; 4- William McGuire Randolph. There was another child who died in infancy. Name unknown. VMI Record: Entered VMI- Feb. 12, 1863; fought and wounded at Battle of New Market; returned to VMI in fall of 1866 and graduated July 4, 1870 ranking 39th in a class of 52. Attended Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va. 1873-1876. Ordained in 1877. Military Record: Enlisted May 1, 1862 at Orange Co. Va. as a Private in Co. F, 6th Va. Cavalry; detailed as courier for then Maj. Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson May- Aug. 1862; Discharged Dec. 31, 1862. Jackson arranged for him to attend VMI; Served with the Corps of Cadets in the Battle of New Market, May 15, 1864 as Private in Co. C.; wounded and lost hearing in one ear. Careers: Episcopal clergyman; served as ordained minister in Virginia, Georgia and Maryland. Died- May 14, 1925 in Richmond, Va. |
