Biography & Genealogy: | Whitehead Joseph Boykin, Class of 1860: Born- November 2, 1837. Matriculated from Suffolk, Va. At VMI 1 year. At UVa 1855-57, 1867-68. Married Olivia Lee 1860. Military Record: Seems to have served briefly in April 1861 as Pvt, Company B, 16th Va. Entered service August 6, 1861 at Bethlehem Church for 1 year as 2nd Lt, Company E, 6th Va. Wounded in action (right arm) at Malvern Hill. Wounded in action at Antietam (left leg). To 1st Lt October 1862 (date of rank July 12). On detached service summer 1863 with Provost Marshal, Petersburg. Retired to Invalid Corps July 19, 1864 and assigned to Conscript Bureau in South Carolina. Paroled May 12, 1865 at Charlotte, NC. Post War Career: Farmer; physician; public official. Health officer, Norfolk. Died- April 1, 1878. |
