Biography & Genealogy: | Charles Fox Urquhart, Class of 1860 (graduated 14 out of 41): Born- May 12, 1838. Matriculated from Berlin, Va. At VMI 3 years. Military Record: Entered service May 3, 1861 at Jerusalem (now Courtland) for 1 year as member of Company D, 3rd Va. Appointed 1st lt July 1, 1861. Elected Capt April 27, 1862. To Maj, probably august 1862. Killed at Sharpsburg, leading regiment with colors in his hand. One of his men wrote: "His old company have lost the best friend they ever had; the regiment one of its most reliable and trusted officers, and the service, one of the noblest, bravest, best men that ever walked God's green earth." Post War Career: Civil Engineer. Died- September 17, 1862. |
