Genealogy: Born circa 1839; Father- Creed Taylor; Mother- Mary Craig; Paternal grandfather- John Taylor from Botetourt Co.; Paternal grandmother Mary (maiden name unknown); Maternal grandmother- Anna Montgomery (said to be the sister or niece of Gen. Richard Montgomery of Revolutionary War fame, who was killed at Quebec). Education: Prior to VMI attended the Montgomery Male Academy, Christiansburg; matriculated at VMI from Christiansburg, Va. in 1856 and attended 2 years. Did not graduate. Pre-Civil War occupation: Farmer. Military Record: Enlisted April 17, 1861 at Christiansburg for 1 year as Private, Company G, 4th Virginia. Appointed 2nd Sgt November 13, 1861. On re-enlistment furlough February 1862. Elected 1st Lt April 22, 1862 at re-organization. Killed in action at Malvern Hill. Died- July 1, 1862. |
