Biography & Genealogy: | Abel Seymour Scott, Class of 1860 (graduated 9 out of 41). Born- August 31, 1839. Matriculated from Moorefield, (West Virginia). At VMI 4 years. Military Record: Entered service May 3, 1861 at Richmond as 2nd Lt, 13th Virginia. Appointed Adjutant June 2, 1861. On sick leave October-November 1861. Detailed February 13, 1862 for duty as Lt and Assistant Professor of Math and Tactics at VMI. Soon resigned to accept commission as Capt, Company E, 18th Virginia Cavalry, to which post he was appointed April 19, 1863. Records March-April 1864 show him detailed to special duty in Harrisonburg. Signed parole April 30, 1865 in Cumberland, Md. Post War Career: Farmer; teacher; public official. Grew cotton in Louisiana. To Seymour, Illinois 1867. Married Sally J. Seymour. School director and co supervisor 1890-1901. Mason. Democrat. Died- November 8, 1917 in Seymour, Illinois. Buried in Woodlawn Cemetery there. |
