|Biography & Genealogy:||George Doniphan Parker, Class of 1860 (graduted 32 out of 41): Born- 1837. Matriculated from Portsmouth, Va. At VMI 4 1/2 years (repeated freshman year). Military Record: Assigned May 1861 as 2nd Lt (Provisional Army Virginia?) and Drill Master to 6th Virginia. Elected Capt, Company B July 14, 1861 (date of rank July 11). Often ill. Discharged August 31, 1861. From September 1861 to February 1862 (and perhaps later) was "1st Class Drillmaster" with 2nd North Carolina Artillery (36th North Carolina State Troops). Provost-marshal, Wilmington, North Carolina May-October 1862. Appointed 1st Lt and Adjutant November 17, 1862 (date of rank October 21). On court martial duty late 1863. Adjutant at Fort Fisher late 1864. Captured there January 15, 1865. (He left sick bed to help defend the fort.) Paroled for exchange February 25, 1865 at Fort Columbus, New York. No further record found. Post War Career: Teacher; lawyer; judge. Died- Berkely, California February 23, 1905.|
