Biography & Genealogy:Thomas Walker NElson, Class of 1860: Born- March 9, 1841. Matriculated from Forest Depot, Va. At VMI 7 months. MD, Jefferson Community College. Military Record: Enlisted May 28, 1861 at Forest Depot for 1 eyar as 1st Sergeant, Company G, 2nd Virginia Cavalry. Accidentally wounded July 1861. September-October 1861 roll shows as Private. Extended enlistment April 25, 1862 for 2 years of the war. Sick September 1862. Absent Without Leave on November-December 1862 roll. Appointed Assistant Surgeon January 2, 1863 (Date of rank December 31, 1862), 1st CS Engineers. Dropped July 29, 1863. Unofficial source says Assistant Surgeon 2nd Virginia Cavalry. No official record of such service found. Post War Career: Physician; farmer. Died- Decembebr 14, 1893.
