|Biography & Genealogy:||John Baxter Moseley, Class of 1860 (graduated 33 out of 41): Born- March 12, 1834. Matriculated from Evergreen, Va. At VMI 4 years. Military Record: Twice dismissed from VMI for drinking but reinstated. Entered service June 20, 1861 at Red House for 1 year and elected Captain, Company A, 21st Virginia. On recruiting service March 1862. Elected Major April 21, 1862. Temporarily commanded 48th Virginia May 1862. Mentioned for gallant conduct at Chancellorsville. Resigned May 26, 1863 (acceppted June 10) probably because of AWOL charges. Enlisted for war August 23, 1864 at Charlotte as Private, Company B, 14th Virginia Cavalry ($50 bounty). Absent Without Leave late 1864. On horse detail early 1865. Post War Career: Farmer; music teacher. Died- August 27, 1897 in Buckingham County.|
