|Biography & Genealogy:||William Manning Michel, Class 1860: Born- October 1, 1839. Matriculated from Washington DC. Unofficial source says at Georgetown College (now University) 1858-59, but school has no record of him. At VMI 1 year. Military Record: One source says served as Sergeant Major, 28th Virginia. Probbabbly the "William Mitchel" who enlisted for 1 year May 20, 1861 at Stewartsville in 28th Va. To Sergeant. Discharged July 2, 1861 for disability (neuralgia). Probably the "William M. Michael" whose only record shows him as hospital steward, 31st Virginia, captured at Sayler's Creek April 6, 1865 and held at Old Capitol Prison, DC until released on oath May 2, 1865. A "Willam M. Michel" is listed as Assistant Surgeon, 34th Virginia. He too was held at Old Capitol Prison until released by order of US Secretary War 1865. Quite possibly the same man. Post war Career: This man was a resident of Washington, DC. Physician. Died- June 15, 1908 Ferndale, California.|
