Married- On Oct. 30, 1877 to Charlotte (Lottie) Stanard Hutter (his cousin), daughter of Edward Sixtus Hutter and Emma Williams Cobbs both of Poplar Forest, Bedford Co. Va. Children- 1- James Risque Hutter; 2- Ferdinand Lee Hutter; 3- Imogen Gordon Hutter, who married Herbert Carson; 4- Horace Heywood Hutter; 5- James Seawood Hutter; 6- Earl Van Dom Hutter. Infantry; sick at home in late 1861; wounded in action and captured at Gettysburg July 3, 1863; held at Johnson's Island, OH; exchanged in Feb. or March, 1865 (while in prison, he has been promoted from Captain to Major on Sept. 23, 1863); captured again at Dinwiddie Court House April 1, 1865; held at Johnson's Island until he was released on oath July 25, 1865.
