Biography & Genealogy:Robert S. Blair, Class of 1860. Born February 24, 1835 at Parkersburg, West Virginia. Father- David Blair (b. Pennsylvania; d. 1835, three weeks after the birth of Robert). Mother- Elizabeth Beeson ( b. Uniontown, Pennsylvania, 1795; died 28 February 1835, age forty, four days after giving birth to Robert). Maternal Grandfather- Jacob Beeson of Uniontown, PA. Marriage- Rachel Core, daughter of Gen. A. S. Core, in July 1860. Children- 1. A. C. Blair (b. 1863 July 27); 2. R. S. Blair (b. 1865 November 19); 3. Catherine Elizabeth Blair (b. 1867 November 21); 4. Harry C. Blair (b. 1886 January 22). VMI Record: He was an orphan when he entered VMI in 1855; was a cadet for three years but did not graduate. Civil War record: no official military record; son informed VMI that he believed his father served in Confederate Secret Service. Career: lawyer in Harrisville, Ritchie County, West Virginia. Died in Harrisville on January 21, 1902.

The database currently includes the names of all enrolled students (both graduates and non-graduates) from VMI's opening in 1839 through the World War II era. In addition, you will find biographical and genealogical information, including a summary of military service during the Civil War, for many individuals who attended in the 19th century.
