Biography & Genealogy: | Henry Clay Beckham, Class of 1860. Genealogy: Born Culpeper County, Virginia on November 24, 1840. Father- Coleman C. Beckham. Mother- Mary C. Beckham (parents were probably cousins). Paternal grandparents- Abner Beckham and Miss Thomas. Maternal grandparents- James Beckham and Elizabeth Cochrane (of Orange Co., VA). Marriage- Anna Wright. Issue: 1. Mrs. William Rouss (given name unknown) 2. Coleman. VMI Record: Attended 6 months, January - July 1857; did not graduate. Studied medicine at the University of Virginia, Richmond Medical School, and the University of Pennsylvania; received medical degree in 1859. Civil War Record: Served with 7th Virginia Infantry; then as a contract surgeon in hospitals in Lynchburg and Richmond, VA; and in 1st Confederate States Engineers. Physical description from military records: 5' 11", light complexion, blue eyes, light hair. Career: physician and farmer in Charles Town, West Virginia. Died April 2, 1916. Brother of James M. Beckham (Class of 1863) and William A. Beckham (Class of 1865). |
