|Biography & Genealogy:||Legh Wilber Reid, Class of 1858 (graduated 2nd out of 19): Born- April 15, 1833. Matriculated from Alexandria, Va. At VMI 4 years. General superintendent of Great Kanawha Coal & Oil Company Works at Kanawha. Appointed Lt, Provisional Army of Virginia 1861 and sent to recruit in Kanawha Valley. Appointed Lt Col, 36th Virginia July 16, 1861 (date of rank July 15). Detached to command 50th Virginia at Ft Donelson February 1862. Wounded in action (shoulder) February 15, 1862 at Ft Donelson. Not re-elected when 36th Va re-organized April 1862. Dropped May 15, 1862. Re-entered army September 1, 1862 in Company E, 27th Virginia Cavalry Battalion (unit became 25th Virginia Cavalry). To 1st Lt at unknown date. Detailed as Adjutant September 15, 1862. Wounded in action (lost left leg) Octobebr 8, 1864 near Woodstock. In hospital (Lynchburg) January 1865. Applied March 1865 to beb Colonel of a Negro regiment. Paroled April 15, 1865 at Lynchburg. Post War Career: Married Emma Catherine Jackson 1865. Worked for Virginia Midland Railroad. Assistant Registrar, US Treasury Department in first Grover Cleveland Administration. Trustee, Anne Lee Memorial Association. President, Charlottesville & Rapidan Railroad. Member Board of Alderman, Alexandria. Episcopal. Died- November 26, 1908 in Alexandria, Va. Buried Ivy Hill Cemetery there.|
