Biography & Genealogy:	William L. Penn, Class of 1858: Born- ca. 1834. Matriculated from Penn's Store, Va. At VMI 1 year. Military Record: Identification speculative, but may have been the man who enlisted in Patrick County March 25, 1862 and was assigned as Private to Company D, 12th Virginia. Elected 2nd Lt May 1, 1862. On conscript detail October-December 1862. Submitted resignation December 22, 1862 (accepted January 7, 1863) because he did not believe himself competent to discharge the duties of the office." Asked to return to the ranks. No further record found. Post War Career: Alive in 1904. Died- ?
