Biography & Genealogy:Hodijah Baylies Meade, Class of 1858 (graduated 9 out of 19): Born- March 2, 1838. Matriculated from Elk Hill, Va. At UVa 1859-60; UPa 1861. Military Record: Assistant Surgeon, Lexington military post May 1861. Appointed Assistant Surgeon, 1st Va Battalion July 17, 1861. Transferred to hospital duty August 1, 1862. Served in hospitals in Culpeper, Danville, Richmond, and Staunton. Unofficial source says also served at Wilmington, North Carolina. No official record of such service found. Applied January 1863 for assignment as Assistant Surgeon at VMI. Took oath June 10, 1865 at Staunton as Surgeon. Post War Career: Physician.
