|Biography & Genealogy:||Edward Claxton Edmonds, Class of 1858: Genealogy: Born- Jan. 21, 1835 in Paris, Fauquier Co. Va. Father- Dr. John R. Edmonds; Mother- Helen Carter, born and raised on the Carter plantation named Pittsylvania in Prince William County, Virginia. No information on grandparents Married- Margaret Tutwiler of Fluvanna Co. on Dec. 29, 1858 Children- 1 daughter, Molly Edmonds Allen, who married George Hunt Allen in 1880. VMI Record- Entered VMI- Sept. 5, 1854; Graduated- July 5, 1858 standing 11 in a class of 19 Careers- Teacher; co-principal of Danville Military Academy Civil War Service- Appointed Col. of the 38th Va. Regiment July 1, 1861; Wounded in action Seven Pines; Commanded brigade at Malvern Hill; Out sick in the summer of 1862; Killed in action at Gettysburg. One of seven Colonels, VMI comrades all killed in the same battle. Died- July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg. Probably buried in an unmarked grave on the battlefield and later moved to the "Gettysburg Dead" section of Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Va.|
