Biography & Genealogy: | Edward Marion Douglass Clarke, Class of 1858: Born- ca. 1836. Matriculated from Woodville, Va. At VMI 1 year. Military Record: Enlisted May 25, 1861, at Camp Moore, La., for 1 year as Private, Co. G, 4th La. Wounded in action April 6, 1862, at Shiloh. On furlough for wound and illness much of 1862. Detailed Jan.-Oct. 1863, as clerk, Adjutant General Dept., HQ of Maj. Gen. S. G. French. Acting Assistant Adjutant General on staff of Maj. Gen. E. C. Walthall 1864-1865, although still as a Private. Wounded in action at Bentonville on March 19, 1865. Paroled May 1, 1865, at Greensboro, NC, as Adjutant General office courier. Post War Career: Farmer; Merchant. Died- ca. 1894. |
