Biography & Genealogy:Lucien D. Winston, Class of 1857: Born- January 20, 1836. Matriculated from Raccoon Ford, Va. At VMI 1 year. Military Record: Enlisted April 17, 1861 at Culpeper Court House for 1 year as Pvt, Company B, 13th Va. Elected 4th Sgt July 13, 1861. Absent sick late 1861-early 1862. Company mustered out January 17, 1862. Enlisted February 26, 1862 at Richmond for 3 years as Pvt, Capt G.M. Cayce's Company Va Light Artillery (Purcell Battery)($50 bounty). Absent sick spring 1862. Corporal fall 1862-spring 1863 then Pvt again. On detached service late spring 1863-February 1865 (last report on file) with commissary department, III Corps, Army Northern Va. Post War Career: Farmer. Died- March 25, 1914.

The database currently includes the names of all enrolled students (both graduates and non-graduates) from VMI's opening in 1839 through the World War II era.
