Biography & Genealogy:William Alexander Thompson, Class of 1857: Born- April 15, 1836. Matriculated from Amherst, Va. At VMI 1 year, 4 months. Lived in Nashville, Tn in 1861. Military Record: Enlisted in Nashville April 23, 1861 for 1 year as Pvt, Company E, 1st Kentucky. Appointed (by Col) Acting Assistant Surgeon June 1, 1861. Appointed (by War Department) Assistant Surgeon November 2, 1861. Assigned to 33rd Tennessee as Assistant Surgeon in May 1862 when 1st Kentucky disbanded. Unofficial source says left behind after Perryville Campaign to treat wounded. On March 1, 1864 assigned to 12th Kentucky Cavalry (1st Kentucky and Tennessee Regiment). To Surgeon July 27, 1864. Paroled May 16, 1865 at Columbus, Mississippi. Post War Career: Surgeon. Died- January 1877.
