Biography & Genealogy:	Benjamin F. Stewart, Class of 1857 (graduated 11 out of 22). Born- 1836 Matriculated from Oak Grove, Va. At VMI 4 years. On VMI faculty 1858-59 as Lt, Assistant Professor of French and Assistant Instructor of Infantry Tactics. Military Record: Entered service May 25, 1861 at Hauge as 2nd Lt, Company K, 40th Virginia. Absent sick July-August 1861. To 1st Lt April 23, 1862. On leave January-February 1863. Brigade Acting Assistant Adjutant General May 1863. Mortally Wounded in Action at Spotsylvania May 12, 1864. Died- May 20, 1864.
