Grandparents- unknown. Married- wife's given name unknown. Daughter of Judge James Harris of Boone Co., Mo. 1870. Children- 1- Mary Pierce, who married Joseph Estes; 2- Sallie Pierce, who married William Guitar; 3- Sabra Pierce, who married Fred Neidemeier; 4-Harris Pierce. VMI Record: Entered VMI- July 30, 1853; Left after one year. Military Record: Enlisted April 15, 1861 at Amherst Co. Court House as 1st Lieut. Co. H, 19th Va. Infantry; promoted to Captain of Co. I, 19th Va. Infantry, July 17, 1861; absent, sick in the fall of 1861; given authority to raise an artillery company in early 1862; absent, sick early in 1862, not a candidate for re-election; conscript law vacated his authority over artillery company on April 29, 1862 and he was dropped from rolls; exempt from conscription; no further records of service; signed parole as "Captain" on June 2, 1865. Careers: Lawyer; Commonwealth Attorney of Amherst, Va. before the Civil War; practiced law in Columbia, Mo. after the War until his death. Died- ca. 1879.|
