Biography & Genealogy: | Thomas Jefferson Pennybacker, Class of 1857: Born- September 15, 1837. Matriculated from Lacy Springs, Va. At VMI 4 months. Military Record: Prewar Lt. Letcher BBrock's Gap Rifles, a company briefly attached to the 10th Virginia and then became Company B, 7th Virginia Cavalry. Appointed Adjutant, 10th Virginia September 9, 1861. To 1st Lt November 16, 1861. Elected Capt, Company H, 10th Virginia May 26, 1862 (date of rank May 24). Mortally Wounded in Action (spine) and captured November 5, 1862 at Gaines Cross Roads. Signed parole November 6, 1862. Post War Career: Farmer; hotel proprietor. Died- December 9, 1862. Buried in family cemetery in Rockingham County. |
