Biography & Genealogy:Alexander Hamilton Lewis, Class of 1857: Genealogy: Born- ca. 1835 in Culpeper Co. Va. Father- James Ballard Lewis; Mother- Mary Elizabeth Yancey. Pat. Grandfather- James Lewis; Pat. Grandmother- Hanah Ballard. Mat. Grandfather- [first name unknown] Yancey; Mat. Grandmother- Mary Summerville Stone. Never married, no children. VMI Record: Entered VMI- July 21, 1853; Dismissed April 28, 1854 for neglect of duty and insubordination. Military Record: Known to have served in the Confederate States Army, but no positive identification made; may have been the "Alexander H. Lewis" who enlisted on July 13, 1861 at Winchester, Va. as Private in Co. B, 13th Va. Infantry; absent, sick in fall of 1861; A.W.O.L. on Oct. 1861- Jan. 1862; company disbanded Jan. 1862. No further record found. Careers: Clerk. Died- May 16, 1897 in Culpeper, Va.
