Grandfather- Samuel William Gilliam. Mat. Grandfather- Col. Joseph Goodwyn (a Col. in the War of 1812). No information on grandmothers. Never married, no children. VMI Record: Entered VMI- July 30, 1852; Jan. 13, 1855- Dismissed for neglect of duties and insubordination. Later attended University of Va. 1855-56 and Medical College of Va. 1857. Civil War Record: Enlisted Sept. 2, 1861 as 1st Lieut. in Capt. B. J. Epes's Co. Va. Heavy Artillery; later promoted to Captain; captured at Paynesville April 3, 1865; Held at Johnson's Island, Ohio until released on oath June 18, 1865. Careers: Farmer; physician; Treasurer of Chesterfield Co. Va. 1882-1912. Died- March 17, 1912 at home near Winterpock, Va. Buried at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Va. |
