Military Record: Appointed assistant surgeon, US Army on June 23, 1860; resigned effective May 9, 1861; appointed surgen for the Confederate States Army on June 27, 1861; reclassified as Assistant Surgeon on Nov. 9, 1861 (Date of rank March 16); on duty late 1861-early 1862 with 6th Virginia Cavalry; assigned 1861-63 as surgeon in hospitals in Culpepper, Lynchburg, and Danville, VA; medical director, Department of North Carolina August 1863-July 1864; in charge of General Hospital in Staunton from July 1864-April 1865. Post War Career: Superintendent, Western Virginia Hospital for the Insane; authored several medical studies. Died- June 19, 1886 in Staunton, VA.|
