Father- William Blackwell Davenport; Mother- Maria Stith No information on grandparents Entered VMI- July 24, 1851; Dismissed July 9, 1853 for excessive demerits. Died- ca. 1856 in Omaha, Nebraska We have no records of marriage or children in our files, but there was a John Sidney Davenport, Jr. who was an actuary in Richmond, Va. and a John Sidney Davenport, III who was listed as the best man in the wedding of Capt. Bradfute Warwick Davenport and Miss Martha Orr. These may be descendants of John Sidney Davenport, who died at age 21, but might have started a family just before his death.

About the Database

The database currently includes the names of all enrolled students (both graduates and non-graduates) from VMI's opening in 1839 through the World War II era. In addition, you will find biographical and genealogical information, including a summary of military service during the Civil War, for many individuals who attended in the 19th century. The database also includes some historical Faculty and Board of Visitors members, as well as U. S. Army students sent to VMI for training during World Wars I and II.
