|Biography & Genealogy:||John Spencer Daniel, Class of 1855: Genealogy: Born- October 27, 1835, in Cumberland Co., Va. Father- George Watkins Daniel; Mother- Judith Elizabeth Spencer. Pat. Grandfather- John Daniel; Pat. Grandmother- Lucy Keeling. Mat. Grandfather- John Spencer; Mat. Grandmother- Elizabeth W. Womack. Never married, no children. Matriculated from Farmville, Virginia. At VMI 1 year. Military Record: Enlisted May 18, 1861 (some records show June 10) at Ashland for 1 year as Private, Company G, 3d Virginia Cavalry; extended enlistment for 2 years in March, 1862; by Sept. 20, 1862, he had a certificate of disability due to serious eye problems, and had been detailed as an attendant ("nurse") in the General Hospital at Farmville where he was "Employed as M.D." Paroled in April, 1865 as Acting Assistant Surgeon in Farmville. Post War Career: Physician. Died- murdered on August 19, 1873 in Paris, Texas.|
