Biography & Genealogy:World War I Record: Captain, 2nd Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Division, A.E.F. Killed near Exermont, France, October 4 [10], 1918. Twice promoted for conspicuous gallantry. Specially commended by his Brigade and Division Commanders for extraordinary bravery, the latter in a letter to the Mayor of Charleston, in which he said the city should erect a monument to him. Twice awarded, posthumously, Distinguished Service Cross, and also Croix de Guerre. Buried at: Plot A, Row 30, Grave 37; Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery. Romagne, France.
