Born Wales; Appointed to United States Military Academy (West Point) from Iowa and graduated in 1877; commissioned 1st Lt. Artillery; assistant instructor at West Point (tactics), 1883-1887; subsequently stationed in California and south; VMI Commandant of Cadets, 1895-1898; during Spanish-American War was Major, 3rd Virginia Infantry, then chief mustering officer of Virginia; rejoined his regiment at Charleston, SC and from there went to Philippines (1903); retired 1906, Major; returned to active duty 1917-1919; retired 1919, Lt. Colonel; died, Rhode Island, August 25, 1941.|
