Grandfather- Henry Morriss; Pat. Grandmother- Christiana Holm Meredith. Mat. Grandfather- Maj. Charles Yancey; Mat. Grandmother- unknown. Married- Emma Wilson of Baltimore, Md. On Sept. 13, 1854. Children- 1- Chapman W. Morriss; 2- Robert F. Morriss, Jr. VMI Record: Entered VMI- Sept. 6, 1848; Graduated July 4, 1851 ranking 22nd in a class of 29. Military Record: Col. of the 179th Va. Militia; on duty at Camp Lee in spring of 1862; volunteer Aide de Camp on staff of then Maj. Gen. J. Longstreet; injured in a military row and upon recovery served as volunteer Aide de Camp to Maj. Gen. G. W. Smith; made application for an appointment in the Corps of Engineers, but later withdrew application. No further record found. Careers: Civil Engineer and Mining Engineer; ran unsuccessfully as anti-secession candidate for delegate in 1861 state convention. Died- March 25, 1904 in Richmond, Va.|
