Grandfather- Edmund Archer Saunders; Pat. Grandmother- Mary Ball. Mat. Grandfather- R. L. Brown; Mat. Grandmother- unknown. Married- Caroline Kirkland Ruffin, daughter of John A. Ruffin and Jane Cary Harrison of "Evelynton" Charles City Co. N.C. Children- 1- Carol Harrison Saunders; 2- Martha Brown Saunders; 3- Richard Ruffin Saunders; 4- Edmund Harrison Saunders. His brother Edmund Archer Saunders, III was a VMI graduate of the Class of 1906. Entered VMI- Sept. 12, 1906; Resigned- Feb. 18, 1909 because of ill health (he suffered from Dementia Praecox and was in and out of the hospital throughout his cadetship. Though he tried very hard to keep up with his studies and military duties, his doctor and his father finally convinced him that his health was more important than his education and persuaded him to resign). Later attended the University of Va. as a law student. Careers- Farmer in Roxbury, Va. He was in an automobile accident early in his life which left him partially disabled, but he was still able to enjoy a happy life on his farm with his family. Died- March 17, 1952.|
