|Biography & Genealogy:||Henry Perkins Gantt, Class of 1851: Born- ca. 1831 in Oakwood, near Scottsville, Va. Father- Dr. John Weems Gantt; Mother- Martha "Sally" Blakey Perkins. Pat. Grandfather- Henry Wright Gantt; Pat. Grandmother- Wilhelmina Weems. Mat. Grandfather- Price Perkins; Mat. Grandmother- Sarah Blakey. Married- Martha (Pattie) Burke Eppes in 1868. Children- 3 daughters, names: Sally, Tempie, Fannie. Entered VMI- July 28, 1848; Graduated- July 4, 1851. Civil War Service- Commissioned Major May 17, 1861 at Centreville Station; Major to Lt. Col. April 29, 1962; Lt. Col. to Col. Sept. 14, 1862. Present until wounded Second Manassas. Wounded at Gettysburg July 3, 1863 [Pickett -Pettigrew-Trimble Assault] in the shoulder and face. These injuries were the ultimate cause of his death later. Career- Farmer. Died- Oct. 4, 1884 in Scottsville, VA.|
