Father- John Taylor Bradford, Tallahassee, FL; Mother- Ida Henley Brooks of Marion, Alabama; Paternal grandparents- John Richard Bradford (Florida) and Nancy Taylor (North Carolina); Maternal grandparents- William Brooks (South Carolina) and Anne E. Terrell (Alabama). Brother of John Richard Bradford, VMI Class of 1918; sisters' names Irita and Margaret. Education/VMI Record: Entered VMI in 1914 and graduated in 1916. Career: United States Army Officer, 1917-1953, rising to the rank of Major General. As a member of the Army Equestrian Team, he participated in the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam, the 1932 Games in Los Angeles, and was Captain of the team in at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. During World War II he served with distinction in the Pacific Theater; post-war was Commander of the U.S. Forces in Trieste, Italy; retired 1953. Marriage: Lois Mowry; children- Anne. Died at Rome, Italy, January 14, 1965; buried Arlington National Cemetery. |
