Grandfather- John Ashby; Pat. Grandmother- Mary Turner. Mat. Grandfather- James Green; Mat. Grandmother- Elizabeth P.Jones. Engaged to Harriette Echols Caperton of Union, WV, but never married. No children. VMI Record: Entered VMI- July 2, 1848; Resigned Aug. 1849. Careers: Farmer. Also worked as a teacher for a short while. Military Record: Captain of Co. A, 7th Va. Cavalry. Mortally wounded in action June 26, 1861 while scouting near Patterson's Creek Depot in W.Va. Died- July 3, 1861 near Romney, Va. from wounds received earlier. Buried at Indian Mound Cemetery in Romney; later moved to Stonewall Jackson Cemetery in Winchester, Va. and buried in the same grave with his brother Brig. Gen. Turner Ashby.|
