|Biography & Genealogy:||Thomas J. B. Cramer. Class of 1842. Genealogy: Born March 18, 1817, Winchester, VA. Father- Thomas Cramer (born Ireland). Mother- Rebecca Dowdell of Winchester, VA. Paternal grandparents- Ambrose Cramer of Down Patrick Co., Down Ireland, and Elizabeth Johnstone of the Annandale, Scotland; they settled at Charlestown, WV ca. 1800. Marriage (1859) Mary Marks of LeCompton, Kansas. Children- 6 sons and 4 daughters, names unknown. VMI Record: Entered VMI on Nov. 11, 1839 from Winchester, VA and graduated July 4, 1842, standing 4th out of 16 graduates. Military record: none. Career: Prior to Civil War participated in survey of [Shenandoah] Valley Turnpike; school teacher (briefly); farmer in Fairmont, WV; Chief Clerk of Land Office, Kansas Territory, LeCompton KS; moved to Los Angeles, California ca. 1859 and later to Grass Valley, Oregon, where he was a rancher/stock raiser. Cramer died at Grass Valley, OR on March 17, 1891. His widow and children were living in Weiser, Idaho in 1910.|
