Va.; Mother- Catherine C. Friend of Whitehill, Prince Edward Co. Va. Pat. Grandfather- Robert Atkinson Mayo; Pat. Grandmother- Sallie Atkinson Taliaferro. Mat. Grandfather- Charles Friend; Mat. Grandmother- Mary Arkinson Minge. Married- On Jan. 10, 1901 to Mary M. Hill, daughter of William M. Hill. Children- No children. VMI Record: Entered VMI- Aug. 10, 1888; Graduated June 23, 1892 ranking 19th in a class of 26. Military Record: In 1894 became member of the "Richmond Light Infantry Blues" and was made 1st Sergeant of Co. B when that company was formed. In March of 1895 he was elected 2nd Lieut. In Nov. 1897 he was elected Captain. He served with this Company during the strike at the Pocahontas Coal Mines. Careers: After graduation entered the service of the P.H. Mayo and Brother, Incorporated Tobacco Manufacturing Company. The business was sold to the Continenal Tobacco Company. In June 1900 he became Treasurer of the Tower-Binford Electric and Manufacturing Company in Richmond, Va. Died- July 12, 1949.|
