Children- 1- Philip Edward Yeatman; 2- Susan Yeatman. VMI Record: Entered VMI- July 31, 1845; Left after two years; Made Honorary Graduate of the Class of 1849 on July 2, 1874. Military Record: Appointed Lieut. for the Provisional Army of Va. in Spring of 1861 and assigned as aide to Col. T. J. Page at Gloucester Point; Appointed Acting Master of Confederate States Navy Jan. 22, 1862 and served as purchasing agent. Appointed 2nd Lieut. of Artillery and Drill Master of army July 31, 1862; Ordnance Officer at Chaffin's Bluff; Resigned May 9, 1863; Appointed Lieut. for Confederate States Navy May 5, 1863; Assigned to Mobile Ala, Squadron where he was Executive Officer on the "Baltic"; Promoted to 1st Lieut. for Confederate States Navy June 2, 1864; Helped to build the "Nashville"; Fled up Tombigbee River when Mobile fell and surrendered May 4, 1865 at Owen's Bluff, Ala.; Paroled May 10, 1865. Careers: Before the War: Transportation business; insurance; lived in California for several years; Baggage Master for Va. & Tn. Railroad; passenger conductor for Rich & York River Railroad; After War: worked for Baltimore Steam Packet Co.; Freight Agent for C&O Railroad 1874-89; Appointed Harbor Master for Norfolk, Va. 1894; was a Mason. Died- Feb. 15, 1898 in Norfolk, Va. Buried at Elmwood Cemetery there.|
