Married- Mary Hutton Long; 1st child- Harry Ervin; 2 others. Matriculated to VMI from Warm Springs, VA. At VMI 1 year. Military Record: Colonel, Virginia Militia; entered service June 15, 1861 as a Captain, Company G, 25th Virginia; disabled from duty by the summer of 1861 due to a fall in which he broke 3 ribs; appointed Captain, Company E, 18th Virginia Cavalry on Dec. 13, 1862; Company became Company Company G and included many former members of the 25th Virginia; captured June 29, 1863 (some records show July 2) at McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania; held at Fort Delaware, Delaware, as well as Johnson's Island, Ohio and Point Lookout, MD; paroled at Staunton, VA on May 27, 1865. Died- Aug. 17, 1891 at Warm Springs, VA. Brother of Ervin JS, VMI Class of 1867.|
